Mr. Michael Bellchambers, General Transportation Manager with the Walmart Transportation Office has chosen Southwest Elementary to receive a $2059.75 donation as part of Walmart’s commitment to education.

The third grade Learning Center students hosted a poetry café and invited their parents to attend. Their family enjoyed listening to the students read their selected poems while drinking hot chocolate and eating homemade cookies.

We're kicking off Red Ribbon Week October 23 - 31
2nd Grade students at East Elementary just completed a Science unit on matter.  To end the unit, students did an Oobleck Experiment.  Teacher Intern Ms. Regina Hebert read the book by Dr. Seuss and led the students with the experiment.

Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts students had their first performance Thursday, October 12, 2017. Theater students presented their “Fall Production” to the student body at the end of the school day and to their parents, friends, and community that evening. They did a great job sharing their amazing talents!

This past summer, 38 students from Louisiana’s 3rd and 5th Congressional Districts boarded a bus to Washington DC. This educational trip was organized by Alderman Tyrone Glover.

Candice Robin, a St. Landry Parish resident and parent of a young daughter with craniofacial disorders, created a campaign to raise awareness of the disorder as well as help to spread the message of kindness.  Ms. Robin donated copies of the book, Wonder by R. J. Palacio, to be placed in our school libraries and/or classes where we have students with this disorder.

St. Landry Parish School Board Employee Veterans to be Honored at November 2, 2017 School Board Meeting

In honor of Veterans Day, St. Landry Parish School Board in partnership with LHC Group will recognize former and present employees of St. Landry Parish School Board who have served in the United States Armed Forces. This recognition will be held in conjunction with the November 2nd School Board Meeting at 4:00 P.M. The meeting will be held at the Opelousas Civic Center. Each Veteran Employee is asked to complete the attached Veteran Employee Form and submit it to Pat Mason-Guillory via e-mail: pmg7660@slp.k12.la.us no later than Wednesday, October 25, 2017, or drop it off at the St. Landry Parish School Board Resource Center. Displaced students may be registered by going to the St. Landry Parish School Board Instructional Resource Center between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you wish to fill out and print the registration packet and bring it with you to register your child, you can do so by clicking on the link. Please read through the first page of the registration packet to see what you need to bring with you. Call 337-948-3657 if you need more information about registering a student.
