On November 10, 2017, Glendale Elementary help a Veterans Day Celebration to honor all branches of the service.

Highland Elementary had a flag retirement/raising on Friday, November 3rd.  Mr. David Cradeur (our custodian)  is a veteran and he was responsible for getting the veterans to have a ceremony this morning

Mr. Michael Bellchambers, General Transportation Manager with the Walmart Transportation Office has chosen Southwest Elementary to receive a $2059.75 donation as part of Walmart’s commitment to education.

The third grade Learning Center students hosted a poetry café and invited their parents to attend. Their family enjoyed listening to the students read their selected poems while drinking hot chocolate and eating homemade cookies.

2nd Grade students at East Elementary just completed a Science unit on matter.  To end the unit, students did an Oobleck Experiment.  Teacher Intern Ms. Regina Hebert read the book by Dr. Seuss and led the students with the experiment.

Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts students had their first performance Thursday, October 12, 2017. Theater students presented their “Fall Production” to the student body at the end of the school day and to their parents, friends, and community that evening. They did a great job sharing their amazing talents!

Pictured along with Brenda Lavergne, the principal of Washington Elementary, is Oscar Walker of the Shining Star Lodge #262 of Sunset Louisiana who along with his organization donated backpacks with school supplies to students who attend the school.

Candice Robin, a St. Landry Parish resident and parent of a young daughter with craniofacial disorders, created a campaign to raise awareness of the disorder as well as help to spread the message of kindness.  Ms. Robin donated copies of the book, Wonder by R. J. Palacio, to be placed in our school libraries and/or classes where we have students with this disorder.

OPELOUSAS, La. -- August Pitre is a senior at Northwest High School and a standout wide receiver. On top of being senior class president and the reigning district/parish MVP in football, he also captains NW's football and basketball teams. But it's Pitre's hard work in the classroom that's made scouts from prestigious universities take notice.
